The German Combined Heat and Power Act and offshore grid levy

Grid operators responsible for processing

The amendment of the Act on Combined Heat and Power Generation (KWKG), which came into effect on 1 January 2017, incorporates parts of the privilege regulation of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), pursuant to section 63 no. 1 in conjunction with section 64 EEG. In line with these provisions, we, TransnetBW GmbH, in our capacity as transmission system operators (TSO), are responsible for processing the CHP surcharge and, since 1 January 2019, the offshore grid levy, for companies who pay a limited CHP surcharge as well as offshore grid levy pursuant to the special compensation scheme.

Please click on one of the links below to find out more and to register if your company falls within the scope of the special compensation scheme (BesAR) and is liable for payment of CHP and offshore grid surcharges to TransnetBW.

Information

Our implementation guidelines provide detailed information on all management processes between you as a privileged company (BesAR company) and us as TSO.

Please register your company for payment of the CHP surcharge and/or offshore grid surcharge via TransnetBW on our EEG registration page. A separate registration for the CHP surcharge is not required if you have already registered with us in connection with the Renewables Act surcharge.

Since processing of the CHP and/or offshore grid surcharges is related to the Renewables Act surcharge, there is also information available on our Renewable Act page at ”Processing the Renewables Act surcharge pursuant to section 60 a of the German Renewable Energies Act 2017 for companies covered by the special compensation scheme“.
