Definition

Redispatch is a request issued by the transmission system operator to power plants to adjust the real power they input in order to avoid or eliminate congestion. This method can be applied within or between control areas.

By lowering the real power output of one or more power plants and at the same time increasing the real power output of one or more other power plants, it is possible to relieve congestion while keeping the total real power in the grid close to constant.
