International Grid Control Cooperation (IGCC) increases quality in operation and brings benefits on energy and monetary level
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands,
Switzerland – In January 2014 the International Grid Control Cooperation (IGCC) for optimized control energy utilization has surpassed the value of 3.8 TWh netted imbalances (short and long). Since its foundation in October 2011 the IGCC produced cost savings of more than 100 Million Euro. The objective of IGCC is to increase the efficiency of balancing on European level through imbalance netting. Thus, the IGCC makes a significant contribution to cost efficiency and system security.
Technically, the IGCC performs an automatic netting of active power imbalances across control area borders. Through this, cross-border counter regulation is avoided which enables all participating Transmission System operators (TSO) to reduce their utilization of control energy and increase their disposable control reserves to ensure system security.
The International Grid Control Cooperation (IGCC) is a successful initiative of ten TSOs from seven countries which started in October 2011 with the cooperation of the German TSOs 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Amprion GmbH, TenneT TSO GmbH, TransnetBW GmbH, with the Danish TSO http://Energinet.dk. The Dutch TSO TenneT TSO B.V. joined IGCC in February 2012 followed by Swissgrid AG,Switzerland, in March 2012, ČEPS a. s., Czech Republic, in June 2012 and Elia SA, Belgium, in October 2012. The Austrian TSO APG AG joined to IGCC recently in April 2014. The IGCC is open to the participation of other TSOs.
