The members of the Transmission System Operator Security Cooperation (TSC) launch their new joint office in Munich

  • New joint office in Munich (Germany) commences operations
  • Higher efficiency and better quality due to closer coordination and collaboration.

The European power grid is facing growing challenges. Against this backdrop, the responsible Transmission System Operators (TSOs) within the transnational TSC now have launched their new joint office in Munich, in which employees of the respective TSC members carry out their tasks with regard to TSC.

Centralizing some of the tasks carried out in connection with TSC at one location accelerates the coordination among the TSOs in ten European countries with more than 203 million citizens (Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia and Switzerland) and thereby improves the security of power supply. "We will be able to fulfil new tasks faster and more efficiently", said Alexander Wirth, TSC’s Operational Manager, coming from Swissgrid, who will also be based in the new joint office. He continues: "This is an important contribution to ensure keeping a high level of system security in the European electricity grid."

From 1st of July the employees of the TSC members work in the joint office. Round the clock they monitor and operate common processes associated with the Day-Ahead Congestion Forecast (DACF). To improve short-term security assessment the testing phase of the new 24/7 rolling Intraday Congestion Forecast (IDCF) together with Coreso in the West European countries has started.

At the joint office agents and analysts from the participating TSOs will carry out additional tasks such as process optimisation measures and IT services. Unchanged, the responsibility for grid operation planning and grid operation remains decentralised at the individual TSO.

TSO Security Cooperation
The Transmission System Operator Security Cooperation (TSC) was launched in December 2008 as an initiative with a decentralized approach to foster regional European cooperation for system security in the countries concerned and in the whole of Europe. Its members are 50Hertz, Amprion (both Germany), APG (Austria), ?EPS (Czech Republic), ELES (Slovenia), http://Energinet.dk (Denmark), HEP OPS (Croatia), PSE (Poland), swissgrid (Switzerland), TenneT TSO (Germany), TenneT TSO (The Netherlands), TransnetBW (Germany) and MAVIR (Hungary) as observer. The involved TSOs set up a permanent TSO Security Panel (group of security experts), new cooperation tools for control centres and a common IT platform CTDS for data exchange and performing common n-1 security assessments. TSC’s main goal is to further enhance operational cooperation amongst TSOs in order to ensure keeping a high level of overall system security in the European electricity grid. TSC is open to the participation of other TSOs.
