Principles for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence

We embrace the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI enables us to improve efficiency, support our employees in their daily work, and unlock new opportunities for innovation.
AI is used in full compliance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and our internal policies and governance framework. - Human Responsibility Comes First
AI is designed to support—not replace—human expertise and decision-making.
Employees remain fully responsible for all decisions, assessments, and work results. This is especially important for safety-critical, regulatory, legal, or business-critical matters. Human oversight always takes precedence. - Security, Privacy and Confidentiality Are Our Highest Priorities
AI must always be used in accordance with our requirements for data protection, information security, and the protection of confidential information.
Personal data, trade secrets, and other sensitive business information may only be processed using approved AI solutions and in line with our internal policies. - Controlled and Transparent Use of AI
Only AI applications that have been assessed, approved, and documented in accordance with our internal governance requirements may be used for business purposes.
New AI use cases are evaluated through a risk-based assessment process to ensure secure, compliant, and responsible implementation. - Transparency, AI Literacy and Continuous Improvement
We actively promote AI literacy across our organisation and encourage an open, responsible, and informed approach to AI.
Our use of AI is based on transparency, traceability, documentation, and continuous improvement. We regularly review both opportunities and risks to ensure the safe and effective use of AI over the long term. - Transparent Use of AI-Generated Media
AI-generated or AI-edited media content must always be created and used responsibly and transparently.
Before publication, all such content must undergo appropriate professional review and approval in accordance with applicable legal requirements and our internal policies.
Principles for the Use of AI Applications
The responsible use of approved AI applications to support business processes is encouraged.
Company-approved AI solutions may be used, for example, to:
- create draft documents and initial concepts,
- analyse and structure information,
- conduct research and translation tasks,
- support administrative processes.
The following principles apply to all AI-assisted work:
- Employees remain fully accountable for all outputs.
- AI-generated content must always be reviewed and validated before use.
- AI-generated results must never be adopted or shared without appropriate verification.
- AI may only be used in accordance with applicable internal policies and approval processes.
- All legal, regulatory, and internal company requirements must be observed at all times.
Our Responsibility as an Operator of Critical Infrastructure
As the operator of critical infrastructure, we have a special responsibility to ensure the security, availability, and integrity of our systems and services.
The use of AI must never compromise the safe operation of critical business processes or technical systems. Accordingly, AI applications are subject to risk-based assessments and appropriate human oversight.
Applications with a higher risk profile are subject to additional requirements relating to assessment, documentation, transparency, monitoring, and risk management.
AI-Generated Images
AI-generated or AI-edited images must be used responsibly and transparently and in compliance with all applicable legal requirements and internal company policies.
Where AI-generated images are published, they must be clearly identified in accordance with the requirements of the respective communication channel—for example, in the image caption, legal notice, or by another appropriate disclosure accompanying the image.
