grid expansion

Driving forward the expansion of the electricity grid and synchronising it with the expansion of renewable energies to ensure the success of the energy transition.

Well-developed networks for a successful energy transition.

In order for Germany to become climate neutral by 2045 and generate at least 80% of its electricity from renewable energies by 2030, it needs a well-developed transmission grid. This is because wind power from the north must be reliably transported to the industrial centres in the south. TransnetBW is consistently pushing ahead with grid expansion and is committed to ensuring that the expansion of renewable energies and grids takes place synchronously. This is the only way to make the energy transition a success.

ULTRANET and TransnetBW's flagship project SuedLink are Projects of Common Interests (PCIs). PCIs are important cross-border infrastructure projects that link the energy systems of the EU across countries and contribute to an integrated internal energy market and climate policy objectives: delivering affordable, secure and sustainable energy for all Europeans and contributing to a climate neutral energy system by 2050.

Our Position on a European Grids Package

Accelerate Europe's Electricity Grids

The announced Grids Package offers an opportunity to streamline grid planning, reduce bureaucracy and introduce simplifications - all of which are needed to accelerate the build-out of Europe's electricity grids. To attain this, we have identified eight recommendations addressing grid planning, permit granting, financing, grid connection, flexibility, simplification, and procurement.
