Policy and Regulation
Regulation
Responsible regulation – for a stable grid, a strong future and a fair energy transition.
Regulation for the energy transition.
An electricity grid is a natural monopoly, as operating a second electricity grid in the same region would never be economically viable. In order to create competitive conditions and ensure efficient and cost-effective grid operation, we are regulated by the Federal Network Agency in Bonn. The Regulation & Coordination team is in regular contact with the authority to ensure that TransnetBW can meet regulatory requirements while also mastering the major challenges of the energy transition.

Position of transmission system operators on future network tariff structures
On 12 May 2025, the Federal Network Agency presented its initial ideas for the future structure of network tariffs. The transmission system operators welcome the open discussion and have submitted their comments and key priorities.
